Classwork Quarter four

The assignment for today, Importance of Biodiversity, is listed below. In addition there are also seven classwork assignments that are overdue. Make sure you complete all seven assignments. I will be grading them by the end of the week.

Importance of biodiversity

Assignment: 

Over the past few weeks, we have studied biodiversity, and the impact we are having on it. But the question now becomes who cares? Why is biodiversity even important? What benefit does it give to us? Below are three different sources. Read/watch each source. Take notes on each source. Then write a paragraph that answers the question below. See the grading rubric.  This assignment will count as a quiz grade and includes two parts:notes and a typed final paragraph. Email both to me at ferranta.spsd@gmail.com.

Question: 

What value does biodiversity provide to humans and why or why should we protect it?  

Grading rubric: 

1. Topic sentence describing biodiversity.
2. Thesis statement that answers the question and clearly states your opinion.
3. Three to five specific and relevant examples from the resources I provided. Be sure to explain your examples.
4. Conclusion that wraps up your paragraph nicely.
5. Be sure to check for spelling and grammar.

Activity:

If you were put in charge of coming up with a law to be put in place to stop overfishing what

would it be. Think about everything and try to creat a law that will have the best outcome on the

United States or just Maine. Have supporting arguments to help sway someone into agreeing

with your law. You should write as much as you need to both state your law and support it well.

Activity: Invent your own invasive species!

-How is your animal effecting the ecosystem where it lives?

-Which biome does your animal live in?

-What ecosystem does your animal live in?

remember to be specific

Students should draw and color an image of their animal (no printing!) Along with a minimum of a 2 paragraph description on how their animal negatively is effecting the environment. Students may also considering writing about the animals adaptations that it may have. How is your animal effecting both biotic and abiotic factors in the ecosystem? 

Remember to be creative, students will be sharing their animals at the end of the activity.
